Bordeaux Quay - Breakfast
I made my way into town near the harbour festival, with the intention to soak up the atmosphere, a little food, see a few old friends and to search out a great cup of coffee.

As I approached the horned bridge I could see V shed & Lloyds, they were already starting to fill with hungry boaters looking to feed a hangover!

I really wanted a ‘spot on coffee’, which is often hard to find, but as approached Bordeaux Quay I could see what looked like the perfect coffee. Large cups brimming with hot coffee topped with a thick rich crema, a good sign.

With the glimmer of sunshine I sat out side to view the flags and passers by, my order was a large mocha, however I was distracted by the breakfast menu. Limited choice but perfectly formed. The choice being sweet pancakes with cinnamon & berries, toast & jam, traditional full English, French pastries, or my order of the day – toast with smoked salmon, poached eggs, spinach & hollandaise sauce! Yes please.

I was on my own, and some magazines did’nt go a miss. My mocha arrived, the cup was hot, a good indication I was’nt about to drink a milkshake, so often served in the high street. The crema was thick and I could taste a good strong fresh coffee, creamy milk, all flavoured with rich chocolate, a bitter sweet combination.

Its often easy to find poor coffee, not so easy to be pleased immediately with the sight, smell & taste. This coffee ticked all the boxes, it hit the spot, it was superb. My breakfast arrived soon after, if appearances were anything to go buy this scored 10 out of 10, I could see everything on the plate, it looked indulgent, I was in for an even bigger surprise, the taste.

Seeded toast, fresh bright green spinach, smooth salmon, two poached eggs & creamy yellow hollandaise, wow, I love ‘me time’. The most outstanding part was the melt in the mouth smoked salmon, however as I broke the egg yolk, I almost had a tear of delight, perfect golden yolk pouring over the spinach. The hollandaise sauce was buttery and slightly piquant, complimenting the dish, a true classic. As for the lightly buttered toast it was tasty, with crunchy pumpkin, sesame & sunflower seeds.

I was almost tempted to indulge in another mocha, but I wanted to save myself, as I was making my way to the French & Slow food markets.

Breakfast was a great start to do the day, I’II certainly be returning, if I can’t find a friend to dine with, a magazine will do, the staff are friendly & chatty if you want to be. Bordeaux Quay proves to be well balanced restaurant appealing to all, I don’t think you can beat this indulgent experience all for under a tenner too!

I wonder if they serve champagne at breakfast
